Psychotherapy helps you change. And change is not easy. You know, you probably keep bumping up against the same empty places in yourself and the same frustrating habits and patterns.  Being in psychotherapy gives you the support and guidance to go deeper than you can go alone, to discover what’s been holding you back.  Along the way you may find things that you've misplaced and forgotten about yourself, and memories and experiences that you’ve buried. You might feel things that hurt and are just plain confusing as you start getting more connected to yourself.  Why do this?  Because as you get more self-aware you get to have new experiences of yourself free of the old patterns that have kept you bound.  You suddenly have opportunities for choosing differently, to live more fully, more authentically, more in tune with your true desires and passion.

Therapy to heal the empty and anxious places you just can't be with alone

ABOUT ME

About Me

Dedicated to deep and long lasting healing, bringing research proven methods along with heartfulness.

I love working with people in a deep and intimate way. My own journey with healing, serving as a nurse for 30 years, and subsequent decades of education, experience and advanced training in mind and body approaches to therapy and other forms of healing has brought me where I am today. Over the years, both personally and professionally, I have witnessed the extraordinary power of accepting and embracing emotions, letting go the patterns of the past and learning to truly and authentically be with one’s self. From working with kids suffering from debilitating asthma, uncontrollable diabetes and anorexia at a children’s hospital early in my career to working with men and women of all backgrounds seeking holistic healing, personal growth and a deeper connection with themselves and others today, it’s been a powerful experience to witness what can happen when we understand and embrace our whole selves.

Personally, I have been a spiritual seeker most of my life. Having come from a family where words were either suppressed or used as weapons, I became motivated to learn how (and subsequently teach others) to openly and effectively express themselves without feeling dangerous, guilty or ashamed. Inspired to touch down into the soul level, I’ve explored my own past and the meaning and purpose of life. I began a dedicated meditation practice at age 19 and have engaged in decades of psychological and spiritual inquiry and growth including, most recently, the Diamond Approach, which focuses on how to walk a spiritual path and live in this world as a complete person.

In looking at the state of the world, I also believe that our planet is in trauma because most of us—to some level at least—are also in trauma. So many of us feel detached, stressed out, overwhelmed, overworked and essentially not fully alive. And, as we become further disconnected—experiencing anxiety, depression, addictions, interpersonal relationship issues, etc.—it becomes harder and harder for us to take care of ourselves and each other.

Opening Your Heart To Healing

The good news is that there is a path for healing for everyone. I believe in your innate capacity to heal and the inherent wisdom within you to live in this world feeling whole and vibrant. Drawing from Mindfulness Therapy and Somatic Therapy, I provide Counseling for Women and Counseling for Men throughout the Bay Area. With a focus on compassionate support, effective resources and practical guidance, I can help you make sense of and integrate your experience.

Healing Starts Here

MY APPROACH

My Approach

My approach is grounded in Somatic therapy   and mindfulness .  Somatic therapy is a body-based approach to holistic healing that explores the connection between the mind and body.  Mindfulness is a moment-by-moment witnessing of what is going on in the right now. It’s about noticing your thoughts, feelings and body sensations as they arise—and doing so without judgment.

Along with the ground of somatic therapy and mindfulness I base my approach on certain core beliefs:

Change in therapy happens through having new experiences, rather than new insights.

This is why I am an active participant in your change process.  I help guide you through habitual ideas, beliefs and stuck places, using in-the-moment somatic and emotional mindfulness to find new experiences of your true Self.  This process tends to lead to cascades of healing, bringing you access to long hidden capacities and awareness.

Symptoms are doorways.

Together we hold your symptoms and difficulties with curiosity and compassion.  Understanding your symptoms and how they were part of the best strategy you could come up with to deal with difficulties .   With compassion, curiosity and understanding these symptom doorways relax and open revealing a new space where you come to feel yourself as whole and good, strong and alive.

You can live a deeply fulfilling life.

As you have deeper access to your True Self and buried capacities and feelings, you will find that you have greater meaning, purpose,  and a sense of fulfillment.

getting started

Getting Started

When we begin, we will discuss what brings you to seek therapy, scheduling, fees, and any questions you may have about my experience and practice. If you feel it would be helpful to you, we will schedule an initial session. The initial session is an opportunity for you to meet me and share with me more about yourself. This also gives you a sense of how I work and how you will feel talking with me.  If, for whatever reason, it doesn't feel like the right fit for you, I will provide you with a referral so you can find the right therapist for you and your needs.

Sessions are 50 minutes long. Typically we will meet once per week.

I accept cash or check at the beginning of our sessions.  I do not accept insurance, however I can provide you documentation of our work for you to submit to you insurance company for possible reimbursement as an "out of network" provider.

I have two office locations one just near Berkeley Bowl on Shattuck and the other is on the Albany/El Cerrito border (close to the Plaza Bart station)

If this sounds like what you are seeking, please contact me.
